Islands of scar tissue where the immune system has attacked once-healthy nerve tissue show up on MRI scans of the brain and upper spinal cord as white dots, ditsels, or, if you see them on a computer screen, white pixels, scleroses, scars. Typically, a patient with many of these scars suffers from a syndrome known as MS: multiple sclerosis.
