Tele-
Whether you view language as pathologically poetic or pathologically and multiply scarred, the effort to express is the desire to transmit telepathically (say what you will). Or, if you are of the other persuasion (say what you mean), the failure to transmit telepathically. All technologies of communication attempt to build such channels of telepathy. Hieroglyph, alphabet, telegraph, telephone, television, an ever more successful accommodation of the mechanical transmission of simulated sensation, always seeking fulfillment and recognition by the Other, from across a vast river of differences, the technical instantiation of a desire never to be met, a yearning across the greatest cut. And now: a medium promising full immersion in consensuality, virtual reality, coalescing the planet's nervous system into one vast shuddering instant of orgasmic hallucination. Or maybe the lines are down, the insulation is broken, the wire scarred, the text unreadable against a noisy backdrop.
