Heh? Sounds like the 'sprawl' trilogy by gibson. Yeah, I know.
Typical. But true.

Lessee, if my tired wine sodden memory works right, these
superorganism were the corporations... and AIs, and at the end, the
'Neuromancer', the one who composes the net... he 'is' the sum of
human information, and well, the 'superorganism' , more than the sum
of the whole.

Hmm.. Ack! Damned live action games....
